The growing need for mental health and substance use services in Eastern New Mexico prompted action by faculty and staff at Eastern New Mexico University in the early 1970s. In response, they established the Eastern New Mexico Resource Center to provide community-based, off-campus services. Following the passage of the New Mexico Mental Health Act in 1975, the Resource Center was reorganized as a private, nonprofit agency, formally becoming Mental Health Resources, Inc. (MHR) in October 1976. Mental Health Resources, Inc. is committed to ensuring access to care. No individual will ever be denied services due to inability to pay, and a discounted sliding fee schedule is available based on household size and income.
